COVID Community Clean Up

What is it

The #COVIDCommunityCleanUp initiative was first spurred by the outstanding effort and humourous play-by-play offered by local Coldwater native, Jack Tynan, in his quest to clean-up the mess left after an illegal dumping in his neighbourhood.

We are partnering with local small businesses and residents from Thornton to Washago, from Midland to Ramara, to clean up our communities and prepare our parks, trails, and local nature paths for a summer to remember.

We are encouraging our communities to equip themselves with a bag or two on their daily walks, to pick up the litter and accumulation of garbage. To help ease the stress on our local waste collections, Big Yellow Bins has offered to post bins at various locations throughout our towns and cities.

How does it work

Participants are encouraged to clean up their communities, neighbourhoods and local nature zones the week of May 25, 2020.

The weekend of May 30 and 31, 2020, Big Yellow Bins will be placed in driveways and parking lots throughout Simcoe County.

All garbage collected throughout the week can be deposited into the Big Yellow Bins free of charge.

In the spirit of friendly competition and to leverage the power of social media, we encourage participants to take before and after photos of their cleaning efforts and upload them to Facebook, Instagram, or any other media site with the hashtag #COVIDCommunityCleanUp
