Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Victoria Harbour Wastewater Treatment Plant Upgrade Phase 1

VICTORIA HARBOUR, TAY TOWNSHIP, ON:  On Wednesday May 25th at 6:30 pm Tay Township will be holding a ground breaking ceremony at the Victoria Harbour Wastewater Treatment Plant located at 158 Industrial Road.

Mayor Scott Warnock, Council and invited guests are pleased to commence construction on the first phase of upgrades at the Victoria Harbour Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Once completed this $7.0 million project will address current capacity issues at the treatment plant.

The Victoria Harbour Wastewater Treatment Plant was originally constructed in 1982 and has had no significant upgrades during its 34 years of operation.  The first phase of this project will include the construction of a new headworks building to remove all incoming debris and grit from the wastewater.  This material has caused significant ongoing maintenance and repair costs for the pumps and mechanical equipment at the plant.  Also included in the first phase will be the installation of an ultraviolet disinfection system to eliminate the need to chlorinate the treated effluent flowing to Severn Sound, replacement of the existing sand filter with two cloth filtration units to improve capacity, and a new standby power generator to provide continuity of treatment in the event of power failures.
