Notice: Tree and Brush Removal – Ice Storm Clean-Up

Following the recent ice storm, residents are reminded that Tay Township is responsible for trees located on Township-owned property only. Property owners are responsible for trees located on private property.

If a privately owned tree has fallen onto Township property, please contact us at 705-524-7248 x230. Township crews will do their best to remove the portion of the tree that extends onto municipal property. Please note that clean-up will only be completed up to the property line—the remaining portion of the tree remains the responsibility of the property owner.

A reminder that if a tree is tangled in hydro wires, Township crews can’t remove it until hydro has made the area safe. Residents should stay at least 10 metres (33 feet) away from any downed power lines—even if they don’t appear to be live. To report a downed power line contact NT Power at 1-888-735-4801 Or Hydro One at 1-800-434-1235 *depending on who your service provider is.

Township crews are currently focused on clearing several priority sites impacted by the storm and are working at full capacity. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.

The County of Simcoe also provides curbside brush collection. Brush must be bundled and prepared according to the following guidelines:

  • Bundles must be secured with natural twine
  • Bundles must not exceed 2 metres in length and 30 cm in diameter
  • Individual branches must not be more than 7 cm in diameter and 2 metres in length
  • Logs are not accepted at the curb

Brush that does not meet these requirements may be left behind. However, unbundled brush, large branches, and logs can be dropped off at any County Waste Facility with no size limits. From March 31 to April 28, 2025, brush debris will be accepted free of charge. Please note: root balls are not considered brush and will be charged at the standard waste disposal rate.
