Tay Township Celebrates Pollinator Week June 21-27, 2021

PROCLAMATION

POLLINATOR WEEK JUNE 21-27, 2021

WHEREAS bees and other pollinators around the globe have experienced dramatic declines due to land fragmentation, habitat and biodiversity loss, use of pesticides, climate change and the spread of pests and diseases, with serious implications for the future health of both flora and fauna; and

WHEREAS, pollinator species provide significant environmental benefits that are needed for maintaining healthy, biodiverse urban, suburban, and rural ecosystems; and

WHEREAS, pollination plays a vital role for the trees and plants of our community, enhancing our quality of life, and creating recreational and economic development opportunities; and

WHEREAS, pollinator species including bees, butterflies, birds, and other animals and insects are essential partners in producing much of our food supply; and

WHEREAS, supporting pollinators fosters sustainability and environmental awareness, and increases interactions and engagement among the community;

NOW, THEREFORE, IT BE RESOLVED, THAT

I, Ted Walker, Mayor of Tay Township, do hereby proclaim the week of

JUNE 21-27, 2021, POLLINATOR WEEK

and encourage all citizens to recognize this observance.
