Tay Township Expands Accessibility Improvements at Community Facilities
Tay Township continues to invest in accessibility improvements across municipal facilities with the installation of new power-operated doors at several community locations.
The upgrades include:
- Two washroom doors at the Port McNicoll Community Centre
- Two washroom doors at the Oakwood Community Centre
- Two change room doors at the Tay Township Community Rink
- Two washroom doors at the Harbour Shore Community Centre
The project was made possible through a $32,692 grant from the Government of Canada’s Enabling Accessibility Fund (EAF). The EAF supports projects that help make Canadian communities and workplaces more accessible and inclusive for persons with disabilities.
These upgrades support the Township’s ongoing commitment to creating accessible public spaces for residents and visitors. “These accessibility improvements reflect Tay Township’s commitment to creating welcoming and inclusive community spaces for residents and visitors of all abilities,” said Mayor Ted Walker. “Investing in accessibility helps ensure everyone can participate fully in community life.”
“Power-operated doors improve independence, safety and convenience for many residents, including seniors, people using mobility devices and families with strollers,” said Bryan Anderson, Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facility Services. “These upgrades help remove barriers and improve the overall experience for everyone using our facilities.”
The Enabling Accessibility Fund provides funding for small-scale construction and communication technology projects that improve accessibility in communities and workplaces. The program supports opportunities for persons with disabilities to participate in community activities, programs and services.
These accessibility improvements reflect the Township’s ongoing commitment to building inclusive and accessible facilities, a priority identified in the Township’s Strategic Plan.
