Township Service Awards

Amendments to the Fireworks By-law
To keep consistent with observed public holidays, and simplify the permitted days consumer fireworks can be used, Council passed a recommendation to amend the Fireworks By-law. Moving forward, you can set off fireworks on the following days:
- New Year’s Eve between 7:00 p.m. and 1:00 a.m the following day
- Victoria Day between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday preceding and including the statutory holiday Monday
- Canada Day between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. the Friday, Saturday and Sunday prior to Canada Day, the Friday, Saturday and Sunday directly following Canada Day or on July 1st;
- Civic Holiday - between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday preceding and including the Civic holiday Monday;
- Labour Day - between 7:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m. on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday preceding and including the statutory holiday Monday.
Use of Fireworks are not permitted at any other time. Be a good neighbour and be considerate of others who may not appreciate fireworks as much as you do.

Waubaushene Community Space Ad-hoc Committee Recommendation
The Community Space Ad-hoc Committee was tasked to research community recreation and meeting space needs, and to provide options and recommendations to Council, with input from representatives of the Waubaushene Action Group and Waubaushene Recreation Committee. Council passed a recommendation which, in part, included, directing staff to:
- Pursue discussion with Royal Canadian Legion Branch 316, to partner in utilizing the Legion’s space for community recreation, meeting and other needs on rental terms.
- Document a formal assessment of the Bridgeview Park portable building’s condition.
- Continue to watch for grant opportunities that could support a project to create a new community recreation and meeting space, if demand for such as space becomes evident, and report back to Council if any viable grant opportunities arise.
- Place a community recreation and meeting space addition to the Waubaushene Fire Station project on the Township’s Long Term Plan under the To be Determined/Future Column, with funding identified as grant/community fundraising, so that future Councils are thusly informed of this Council’s plan.
Municipal Grants Applications
Applications are received annually from various organizations servicing the residents of Tay Township for funding support under the Township’s Grants and Donations policy. The applications include requests for both financial and in-kind support. Applications are forwarded to Corporate Services committee for recommendation to Council. Council approved the following applications for the 2022 budget year:

- Community Reach North Simcoe $4,500
- Georgian Bay Cancer Support Centre $2,000
- Port McNicoll Anglers & Hunters $1,000
- Portarama Family Festival $2,500
- Sistema Huronia Music Academy $1,000
- Talpines Property Owners Association $2,000
- Tay Canada Day Committee $1,300
- The Karma Project $2,000
- Waubaushene Santa Claus Parade $1,300
