Grandview Beach and Paradise Point Vacant Lot Development Randomized Selection

Council held the randomized selection process and selected vacant lots for development in the Grandview Beach and Paradise Point area. The process was conducted by the Mayor, Acting CAO and Clerk. The Township’s auditor was also present to witness the process. The Township received a total of twenty-five letters of interest for those wishing to develop their property. All twenty-five properties were randomly selected by draw and ranked. Letters will be sent to all twenty-five properties informing them of next steps. A Public Planning Meeting will be held on July 27, 2022 at 6:30 p.m. to introduce the proposed Official Plan Amendment (OPA) and Zoning By-Law Amendment (ZBA) that is required to allow for development to occur on lands in the Grandview Beach Paradise Point area. For information on how to join this virtual public meeting please visit tay.ca/meetings.

Land Sale Request Denied for Bayview Park

Council formally declined the request to purchase Bayview Park, located at 66 Forest Harbour Parkway, and committed to increased enforcement in the area. Staff presented a Report to Committee at the Operational Services Meeting in June, after a resident letter was received outlining concerns surrounding behaviour of users of the park, with the offer to purchase the property along with various other options. After further review with staff, and in alignment with the Strategic Plan, the selling of a Township owned piece of land that provides residents public access to the lake was not supported. Operational Services staff, along with Municipal Law Enforcement Staff will work together to help address remaining issues outlined in the report. Municipal Law Enforcement Staff will be completing more inspections of the area to help deter unwanted behaviour, as well as review enhanced patrol with the OPP.

2023 Budget Process and Budget Target

Receiving direction from Council early in the budget process assists staff in preparing a draft budget that better reflects Council’s priorities. With 2022 being an election year, staff are looking to propose a schedule that will allow them to present a draft capital and operating budget to the outgoing Council in October, with the anticipation of passing of the budget in December or early 2023 once the newly elected Council is in place. Council agreed to provide staff with items they would like investigated or researched, as well as consider a target for an overall increase to the Municipal Tax Rate Levy, which will be discussed at a future Council meeting.

Tay Township meets for regular council meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
