Tay Community Outdoor Rinks
Manager of Parks, Recreation and Facility Services Bryan Anderson presented a report to November Operational Services Committee outlining the steps and guidelines that will be in place for opening the three outdoor natural ice surfaces in the communities of Waverley, Waubaushene and Victoria Harbour. The rinks will open under the guidance document titled “COVID-19 Guidance for Outdoor Ice Surfaces/Rinks and Outdoor Skating Trails” provided by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit. After discussion committee selected option 2 in the report, which will have all outdoor rinks open to the public, with roads/park staff providing daily maintenance, along with portable toilets at all locations. Short Term Rental Accommodation 2021 Recap
At the November Protective and Development Services Committee Meeting the Municipal Law Enforcement Officer (MLEO) provided a recap on Short Term Rental Accommodation (STRA) properties for 2021. There are approximately 90 STRAs in the Township with only 4 having re-occurring issues reported, often with different occupants each time. A total of 35 STRA complaints were received in 2021. The MLEO spoke to the success of the measures put in place this year, which included:
- Extended MLEO hours of operation
- Night time paid duty patrols by the OPP
- Educational material on Township community standards and expectations via the “Enjoy your Stay in Tay” Guide
At the November Council meeting, council adopted the resolution that the Township continue to implement the same measures put in place in 2021, as well as continue to compile statistics related to STRA properties in order to obtain data on the volume and type of complaints received to assist in future policy development. User Fees and Service Charges By-law Update
As part of the 2022 budget process, Staff review the user fees and services charges currently charged for each department’s services. This year a review was undertaken with an eye on ensuring that the fees charged were in alignment with the labour costs associated with delivering fee based services. Review the full list at tay.ca/bylaws. Moving forward increases will be made on an incremental basis, in accordance with inflation, with a more detailed review every 5 years. Ensuring that costs for fee-based services are provided on a cost-recovery basis supports the municipality’s goal of being financially sustainable.
Tay Township meets for regular council meetings on the fourth Wednesday of each month at 7:00 p.m.
