Ground Breaking for the Tay Township Fire Station #2 (Old Fort Road) Replacement

TAY TOWNSHIP, ON – On Wednesday June 22, 2016 at 6:15pm Tay Township Council held a ground breaking ceremony at the site of the new Tay Township Fire Station #2 (Old Fort Road).  Township Council was joined by the Volunteer Fire Fighters of the Tay Township Fire and Emergency Services Department Station #2, Staff and representatives of contractor Greystone Project Management and consultant Steenhof Building Services Group.

Mayor Scott Warnock, Council and invited guests are pleased to commence construction on the replacement of the 40 year old Tay Township Fire Station #2 (Old Fort Road) which was originally constructed in 1975-1976.  Once completed this $2 million project, which was identified as a priority in the Township’s recent Fire Master Plan, will address the limited equipment storage space and health and safety issues that have been a challenge at the current Fire Station #2 while ensuring that all Tay Township residents will continue to benefit from the excellent level of service provided by Tay Township Fire and Emergency Services.

The new Tay Township Fire Station #2 will include 6 truck bays to house the equipment from the old Station #2 as well as a spills trailer and off road truck/skid unit that is currently stored off-site.  Eating/training space that is separated from areas for removing contaminated personal protective equipment as well as space for off-season Tay Township Public Works equipment storage will be also included in the new building.  Additionally a 30,000 litre cistern for rural fire fighting water storage will be constructed on-site as part of this important project.

Site preparation for construction will commence within the month, immediately followed by construction through the summer and fall, with an anticipated project completion in 2017.
