Media Release
Waubaushene, ON - On Friday, December 13, 2024, at 2 PM, MPP Jill Dunlop will honour the Royal Canadian Legion Beaverbrook Branch 316 Waubaushene with a ribbon cutting ceremony for several capital projects that were funded by two capital grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation.
One capital project in the amount of $150,000 enabled the Legion to merge two lots into one allowing for a new septic system and a paved parking lot. In addition, it allowed the Legion Hall to install new industrial grade floor covering including the hall, three bathrooms, the kitchen, and the bar. A space used by the community and its Legion members for ceremonies, celebrations, events, rentals, and meetings. The Legion is the only facility in Waubaushene to support several community initiatives.
The second capital project in the amount of $100,600 replaced the wooden fence with an 8’ tan vinyl fencing around the entire courtyard, all new windows, the wooden emergency door replaced with a steel door, sandblasted and painted the metal emergency stairs, and improved cost saving LED lighting. The courtyard is a wonderful outdoor space that provides privacy for several events including Canada Day, community day, musicians, horseshoes, barbecues, corn roasts or simply a place to relax.
The Legion was first built in 1947. The purchase of the Price property in 1987 allowed the Legion to expand its property from Willow Street to Elm Street. The capital projects funded by the Ontario government has improved the property value significantly and has given it new life for many years to come.
