Proclamation: I Read Canadian Day

WHEREAS I Read Canadian Day is a national day of celebration of Canadian books for young people, with the goal of elevating the genre and celebrating the breadth and diversity of these books;

AND WHEREAS I Read Canadian Day was created as a collaboration between the Canadian Children’s Book Centre, children’s author Eric Walters, Canadian Society of Children’s Authors, Illustrators and Performers and the Ontario Library Association;

AND WHEREAS this year, I Read Canadian Day is not only a celebration of the phenomenal creators in this country, but also of the ways books can connect us and bring us together;

AND WHEREAS this is a day dedicated to ‘reading Canadian’, empowering families, schools, libraries and organizations to host local activities and events within the week;

AND WHEREAS, the Tay Township Public Library will be participating with an online Storytime featuring a Canadian book and all branches will have a display of Canadian works available for borrowing;

Now Therefore, I Mayor Ted Walker do declare November 2, 2022 as

I READ CANADIAN DAY

and urge all residents of our community to participate in our local Library activities and encourage everyone to read Canadian for 15 minutes to mark this special day.
