Tay residents can now obtain fire permits online

Tay, Ontario: Tay residents can now obtain 2018 fire permits from the comfort of home thanks to the implementation of a new online system. “The new system provides a more convenient way for residents to obtain fire permits,” said Fire Chief Brian Thomas.

For $20—payable by credit, Visa debit or PayPal—Tay residents can buy a fire permit online at tay.ca/FirePermits. Residents who don’t have a computer or Internet can use the public access computers available at Tay Township Public Library (all branches) to obtain their fire permits. Permits are also available at the Municipal Office (450 Park Street, Victoria Harbour) Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Fire permits are required for any open air burning. Fire Chief Brian Thomas reminds residents to follow safe burning practices. “Before setting a fire, ensure there are sufficient adults present to control the fire and sufficient water or equipment to extinguish the fire,” said Fire Chief Brian Thomas. “Burn clean, seasoned wood in a fire pit no larger than one cubic metre. Fires must be at least six metres from combustible structures or objects and must be supervised at all times and extinguished before leaving.”

In addition to having a fire permit, residents are responsible to comply with the fire rating. The current fire rating is available at tay.ca or by calling 705-999-5941. Apply online for a fire permit or learn more on safe burning practices at tay.ca/FirePermits.

Tay Fire and Emergency Services is committed to protecting the life and property of Tay residents. Fire Chief Brian Thomas, Deputy Fire Chief Shawn Aymer, and 66 dedicated volunteer firefighters operate from four fire stations. The fire department responds to an average of 270 calls per year and serves 10,000 residents in a 139-square kilometer area.
