UPDATE – Monday May 31, 2021: Further to the update on Short Term Rental Accommodations in Tay Township, Council will also be reviewing municipal law enforcement options, including hours of service and staff complement.

Trailer Parking Enhancements at Albert Street Boat Launch
Starting June 1, residents and property owners in Tay Township can obtain a 2021 Albert Street boat launch parking permit. The permit is required to park with a trailer in the trailer parking spaces located at 110 and 145 Albert Street. Obtain your parking permit instantly online at MyTay.ca, starting June 1. Click on “Boat Launch Parking Permits” and enter the required information. Please note that you will need to provide proof of property ownership or residency, and provide a license plate number of the vehicle the permit will be attached too. A MyTay.ca verification code located on June water bills or the final tax bills being mailed early June can be used as proof of property ownership.

Short Term Rental Accommodations in Tay Township
In February 2021 Protective and Development Services Committee reviewed a proposed licensing framework and recommended to Council the formation of an ad-hoc committee to review concerns and solutions surrounding Short Term Rental Accommodations in Tay Township. Four options to mitigate Short Term Rental Accommodation concerns were identified by the Ad-hoc Committee, and were presented to Council for consideration. After much consideration, Council directed staff to:
- Enforce existing municipal by-laws related to STRA activities of common concern using the existing complement of Municipal Law Enforcement Officers.
- Continue to collect statistics related to STRAs including statistics on concerns or complaints received by municipal law enforcement offers.
- Seek further legal advice on the Township’s options in regards to STRAs and to follow the proceedings of other municipalities that experienced challenges with STRAs earlier on than Tay and which are still working their way through implementing policies.
Road paving and gravel rehabilitation tenders awarded
The 2021 asphalt resurfacing tender was awarded to Coco Paving Inc. Over 5 kilometers of roads will be paved including sections of Davidson Street, Elliott Sideroad, Bay Street, Bell Street, and Newton Street, with provisional road segments of George Street, Vents Beach Road, Elm Street and others.
The 2021 Gravel Rehabilitation tender was awarded to CCH Excavating Ltd. And will include over 8 kilometres of roads. For a full list and more information on the Tay Township Road Improvement Program visit tay.ca/construction.
Airboat Fundraiser
A group of Tay residents have volunteered to raise funds for the purchase of an airboat for Tay Fire and Emergency Services (TFES), the idea was sparked after recent fatalities occurred during unstable ice conditions on Georgian Bay this past winter. The airboat will assist TFES in performing recuses in adverse weather, water and ice conditions in both a safe and expedient manner. The group has committed to raise the necessary funds for the purchase of the craft, associated navigation and safety equipment, initial training costs and 5 years of maintenance and insurance. Council endorsed the fundraising committee’s initiative, as well as staff support, at the discretion of the CAO.
