Tay Township Lifts Outdoor Watering and Fire Bans

Tay, Ontario: Effective immediately the Township of Tay has lifted the Outdoor Watering and Fire Bans put into effect on July 8 in response to unusually high water demand over the previous week.

Water demand has declined since earlier in the week as a result of voluntary compliance with the Outdoor Watering Ban and enforcement by Municipal Law Enforcement Officers.

On behalf of all water users, the Township thanks residents for their co-operation this past week, and through the remainder of the summer season, in complying with the Township’s Water Use Regulations.

The Township is reminding residents that to avoid the need for future Outdoor 

Watering Bans, Municipal Law Enforcement Officers will be out on weekends to ensure compliance with the Township’s Water Use Regulations.

The Outdoor Water Use Regulations are as follows: 

  • No person shall use municipal water (other than by use of a hand held watering can):
    • From more than one (1) outside faucet.
    • To water lawns or gardens except between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on the days of the month that do correspond with the civic address, meaning odd numbered houses on odd calendar days and even numbered houses on even calendar days.
    • To top up swimming pools except between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Fines for non-compliance with the Water Use Regulations start at $125 + $25 Provincial Victim Fine Surcharge.  The Water Use Regulations can be viewed at http://www.tay.ca/en/your-municipality/by-laws.asp
