Tay Township working with Royal Canadian Legion Sunset Post Branch 523 to enhance the Victoria Harbour Cenotaph Parkette

Tay Ontario: At the request of Royal Canadian Legion Sunset Post Branch 523, Tay Township Operational Staff are working to enhance and improve the Victoria Harbour Cenotaph Parkette, located at 143 Richard Street. These improvements will assist in highlighting Victoria Harbour residents who gave the ultimate sacrifice in the First and Second World Wars.

Please note that crews will be working on improvements in three phases:

Phase 1 – Removal of cedars around the front entrance of the cenotaph to enhance the features of the monument and historical canon, honouring those who gave the ultimate sacrifice of the First and Second World Wards.

Phase 2 - Flag pole relocation. The two flag poles at the Cenotaph will be moved closer to the middle of the monument, enhancing visibility of the flags and what they represent.

Phase 3 – A new granite monument will be installed at the front of the Cenotaph with the names of Victoria Harbour residents who gave their lives during the First and Second World Wars.

These improvements will be completed in time for the 70th Anniversary of Royal Canadian Legion Sunset Post Branch 523 which will take place on July 16, 2022. More information about this celebration can be found at www.legion.ca or by emailing rclbranch523@rogers.com.
