The Township is dedicated to removing existing barriers while providing accessible goods, services and facilities for all members of the public.
Tay Township is working to become a fully accessible community.
The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, 2005, (AODA) provides for the establishment of accessibility standards. The standards are made into laws called regulations, and they provide the details to help meet the goals of the AODA. The purpose of the Accessibility Standards is to set requirements in a number of key areas, such as:
- Information and Communications
- Employment
- Transportation
- Design of Public Spaces
- Customer Service
- Procurement of Goods and Services

The Township of Tay recognizes that persons with disabilities use various methods to access information. Upon request, the Township will provide, or arrange for the provision of accessible formats or communication supports for persons with disabilities. The cost of these goods and services will be no greater than the regular cost charged to others.

The Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) was passed by the Ontario Provincial Government in December 2005. The purpose of the AODA is to improve access and opportunities for people with disabilities and to provide for their involvement in the identification, removal and prevention of barriers. The AODA mandates that each municipality prepare an annual accessibility plan. The accessibility plan is intended to address existing barriers to people with disabilities and to prevent new barriers from being established.
Tay reviews its accessibility plan annually to assist in promoting and facilitating a barrier-free municipality for citizens of all abilities (universal accessibility), including persons with disabilities. The accessibility plan describes the measures the municipality has taken in the past and will take in the future to identify, remove, and prevent barriers to people with disabilities who use the facilities and services of the Township.
