Tree & Brush Removal Policy
Tay Township’s Tree & Brush Removal Policy addresses all concerns related to trees and brush on municipally-owned property. This includes guidelines for:
- Tree or brush removal on municipal land that borders private property.
- Removal of debris from healthy municipal trees that have fallen onto private property.
Before submitting a request or complaint, please review the full Tree Policy to ensure your concern falls within Township responsibilities.
If you see a tree that looks unsafe or requires attention, please contact the Operational Services Department at 705-534-7248 x230.
More Information
- The Township will inspect the tree and determine if it is a safety hazard or dead and needs to be removed.
- If the tree is on the property line then the Township and the owner will share the expense for removal.
- If the tree is on municipally owned land then the Township will cover the cost for removal.
- If the tree is on the homeowners side then the owner will cover the cost for removal.
If a tree is on municipally owned land and is required to be removed for entrance to the property and if the Township gives approval for the tree to be removed, then the owner will cover the expense for removal.
Fire hydrants are inspected annually and cleared of brush as needed. If you notice an overgrown hydrant, please contact the township office.
